NAB 2009: JVC shows GY-HM100 digital cinema camcorder system

Company also offers technology demonstration of 4K camera

At NAB 2009, JVC was showcasing the GY-HM100 digital cinema camcorder system. Priced at around $4000, the dual format camera records to standard Class 5 SDHC solid state memory cards to .mp4 on XDCAM EX and Apple's .mov file format. It can record to 35Mbps, 25Mbps, and 19Mbps. The camera can record in virtually all flavors of HD, including 1920 x 1080 (1080p24/25/30, 1080i), and 1280 x 720P (p60/50/30/25/24). It features a Fujinon HD lens that can be adjusted manually or left on auto mode, sports customization modes such as gamma, matrix, knee, detail, and features uncompressed two channel LPCM audio recording, manual level controls with audio meter, and XLR inputs.

The camera is priced at around $4000. The company also showcased its compact shoulder mount GY-HM700 camcorder that features a 3-CCD optical system for full HD resolution images with data rates at up to 35Mbps. The camera records 1920 x 1080 (1080p24/p25/p30, 1080i60/i50) and 1280 x 720P (p60/p50/p30/p25/p24) full resolution images. It can also record to .mov and .mp4 with the option SxS media Recorder with variable frame rate recording. It features an HD SDI output and can downconvert SDI output. It features a 4.3-inch LCD, sports a patented Focus Assist function and features uncompressed two channel LPCM audio recording, manual level controls with audio meter, and XLR inputs. It is priced starting at $7995 with 14X Canon lens and is expected to ship in June 2009.

JVC had several technology demonstrations, including a 4K resolution camera as well as several 3D LCD displays. The 4K camera, dubbed the KY-F4000, is a real-time 4K camera that features a single 1.25-inch CMOS image sensor that outputs 3840 x 2160 pixels and, according to the company, is capable of producing live images that offers up to four times the resolution of full HD. It offers 60 progressive frame live output capability, including HDSDI Dual Link (4:2:2/10 bit 4 ch) and DVI Single Link (4:4:4/8 bit x 4ch), the company said.
