JVC to showcase new ProHD Camcorder at Sundance 2009 in Park City Utah

The new JVC ProHD camcorder that records directly to Apple's QuickTime format will be showcased at Variety's New York Lounge in Park City, Utah during the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM on January 16-18, 2009.
Called the GY-HM100 and announced January 8, 2009, the camcorder can record 35Mbps high definition video and uncompressed audio to off the shelf, class 6 SDHC media cards.

Recording straight to the QuickTime format eliminates the need for transcoding or re-wrapping the files for placement onto an NLE timeline, and does away with expensive and proprietary recording media, the company said. Files are dragged directly from the camera's SDHC card onto an NLE timeline such as Final Cut Pro for direct editing.

The company claims the GY-HM100 is the world's smallest hand held HD 3-CCD camcorder on the market, and as such, has targeted it to those on the spot shooters who don't have a need for the bigger full sized cameras, but still can avail of the camera's broadcast quality recording capabilities and features. It can record 1080i (50, 60) 1080p (24, 30), and 720p (24, 25, 30, 50, 60) HD resolution video, at up to 1920 x 1080 encoding in the camera's HQ mode.

The GY-HM100 weighs in at about 3lbs and is built around three 1/4-inch progressive CCDs. Images are captured with a Fujinon 10:1 Zoom HD Lens that features both manual and automatic focus control. the lens' macro mode enables you to shoot at subjects as close as two inches from the lens. Exposure is automatically or manually controlled as well, giving you the capability to adjust depth of focus via the lens' F-stop. Other features include optical image stabilization, JVC's Focus Assist, color viewfinder and LCD display, 2-Channel balanced audio inputs, mic/line switchable with built-in phantom power supply, HDMI output, and a USB interface.

The GY-HM100, expected to ship in April 2009 with a price of around $4,000.  For more information, visit http://www.jvc.com/pro.
